Are you seeing double?
As many of you know by now, content is “king” when it comes to
online success from the standpoint of both the readers and the
search engines. The problem with online publishing today is that
articles are littered with untargeted, irrelevant advertising and
spread out on multiple pages - the last being my biggest pet peeve.
Why does a 500-word article require 4-5 clicks in order to read it
in its entirety? I am not sure how online publishing got so muddied.
Maybe it originally started when scrolling was considered bad (when
your mouse couldn’t scroll), but those days are long over.

exciting and innovative ways to reach customers. Now
your target audience can do business with you from any

A Web site is no longer an “optional marketing tool.” It
is one of the most critical weapons in your marketing
arsenal.

What is a Web Site?
A Web site is an extension of your business and a
barometer of your credibility. A Web site allows your
business to deliver key purchasing information about
your products and/or services to your target demographic
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to anyone with Internet
access. Your site should provide your customers with
everything they need to make a purchasing decision
(customer service, branding, product/service
information, support, etc.).

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
By: Deirdre Cavener
“In the future there will be two kinds of businesses.
Those that are on the Internet…and those that are out of
business.” Bill Gates
If your Web site is selling great products or services,
you need to be found in the four major search engines:
Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask. Search Engine Optimization
(SEO) is what gets your business Web site in front of
potential customers and improves the quality and volume
of your Internet traffic.
Today, the majority of Web sites don’t have a chance in
getting top search engine placement. Millions of Web
sites are all competing for the first page making it one
of the biggest challenges of the 21st century. Search
Engines are in a constant stat of flux and you must
monitor your position constantly. You can be on the
first page one day and be gone the next day if you
aren’t proactive.
Beware of the Snake Oil Salesman!
I am sure that each and every one of you has received
the famed email stating “get to the top of the search
engines in 24 hours guaranteed”. Logical thinking should
immediately cause you to question such a claim. The only
way to get top placement on the free search results is
to have a solid SEO strategy and a Web site built to be
read by the search engines.
Everyone’s an Expert
Recently I heard a speaker take the stage, step up to
the microphone, and make the claim that no one needed
SEO. She raved about getting her company Web site to the
top of the search engines for her “company name”. How
many new customers are going to search for your company
name? Considering new customers don’t know about you
they won’t search for you … and that is why SEO is so
important to the growth of your business.
